Kia ora koutou katoa, The new playground at Tamatea Street, on the shores of Lake Rotoiti, was formally opened by kaumatua of Ngāti Tamateatutahi/Ngāti Kawiti on a cold, June morning in 2021. The karakia blessed the new development, preparing the way for the future enjoyment of this new taonga, by Tamatea Street residents, hapū members and the general public. Representatives from the Rotorua Lakes Council, Lake Rotoiti Community Association, Te Tahuna Trustees, Hapū members and Construction staff, participated in the ceremony on this cold winters day. After the formalities, everyone enjoyed a fabulous meal, that was hosted by members of the Hinehopu Golf Club, of which we are incredibly grateful. See the short video below of the event. Ngā mihi, Ivor Jones Chairperson Te Tahuna Trust www.tetahuna.maori.nz
