Trust Focus Areas

  • Astute trusteeship with a focus on viability, sustainability and prudent resource management
  • Partnership for shared outcomes, especially with sector leaders like Deloitte, Craigs Investment and regulatory bodies such as the Māori Land Court
  • Open, regular communication with owners (whānau, hapū stakeholders)
  • Growing cultural leadership and capacity
  • Enabling engagement and succession among uri
  • Building resilience across whānau, hapū, iwi and the wider community

Our Strategic Plan demonstrates a unified waka (canoe) approach – Te Tahuna ki te hoe – where trustees, uri and partners move forward in harmonious tikanga-driven pursuit of cultural, environmental and economic well-being for present and future generations.

Mā te huruhuru ka rere to manu, mā te whakaaro Māori ka piki te haumarutanga o te whenua

Pest Control

Te Tahuna Trust maintains a proactive and structured pest control programme. The Trust’s kaupapa prioritises the health and restoration of Waiwherowhero Wetland, protection of native species by reducing the rat / stoat population and the fostering of mātauranga Māori within all environmental activities.

Te Tahuna Trust’s pest control initiatives operate in partnership with Te Arawa Lakes Trust, Department of Conservation and Bay of Plenty Regional Council. Our primary focus is on bi-weekly checking and recording of 53 traps positioned discretely throughout the ngahere, land abuting the wetlands and Hinehopu Golf Club as well as several of the Tamatea Street homes.

Te Tahuna Trust upholds its responsibility to protect the whenua and restore the mauri of our taonga. Ko te reo o te hapū, te reo o te whenua – our pest control mahi is a living expression of our commitment to Ngāti Tamateatutahi-Ngāti Kawiti, ensuring the prosperity of both people and environment for generations to come.

Ka mau tonu te mana o te whenua,
ka ora tonu te iwi!

If the authority and prestige of the land endures, the people will continue to thrive!
